The Joint Entrance Examination (or JEE) is a competitive engineering examination held in India for admission to the top engineering institutions. It is a combination of two separate levels: the JEE (Main) and the JEE (Advanced).

JEE Main is both a qualifying exam for getting admission to some colleges and a screening exam that determines who will be eligible for JEE Advanced, which is the decisive exam for selecting students for admission to IITs and NITs.

The first thing that every candidate considers following the examination is the results of the JEE Main cutoff. The minimum score needed to be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2022 is the JEE Main Cutoff 2022. The JEE Main cutoff is announced shortly after the JEE Main exam ends and released by the official body, National Testing Agency (NTA).

Let’s get to the various JEE Main cutoff aspects and trends.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Following are the important factors that affect the JEE Cutoff marks:
  • The difficulty level of the exam.
  • Total students appeared in the JEE exam.
  • Candidate's overall performance
  • Total seats available in the colleges.
  • Previous year’s JEE Main cutoff scores.

Yes, the above-mentioned factors determine the cutoffs, including category-specific cutoffs, each year. For the general category, SC and ST, OBC, etc., there are different cutoffs.

Normally, no such cutoffs are indicated for foreign students. There are also no particular reservations or quotas. They will only be admitted to IITs based purely on their JEE Main test results.

The cutoff usually goes higher if the exam is easy or fewer students have appeared. It is highly unlikely that it will increase considerably, there could be a slight change this year as per the trends.

You have to consider the JEE Main qualifying cutoff for the JEE Advanced exam eligibility to appear. The other Admission cutoff is for taking admission to the participating institution in the counselling.
