The Joint Entrance Examination, commonly known as JEE, is a computer-based test (CBT) taken for the admission of students in the Engineering and Architecture colleges of India.
The first level is the JEE (Main) and the official body, National Testing Agency (NTA), organises this exam every year. It comprises two papers, namely Paper 1 and Paper 2. The first paper is for the admission of B.E. and B.Tech programmes in National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions(CFTIs) and all the other institutes of the participating States. The second paper (Paper 2) is for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in various Indian institutes.
JEE Main is also the qualifying test to sit for JEE Advanced (second level of JEE), conducted for admission to the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Note: The drawing test for B.Arch is held offline or in pen and paper mode.
As per the official notification of NTA, there will be two sessions of the JEE Main 2023 for admissions in the academic session 2023-24. It is not compulsory for the students to appear for both sessions. However, if a candidate sits for both JEE Main sessions, the best scores among the two sessions will be considered for the merit list. It will allow the candidates to rectify their mistakes and improve their scores in the next one.
Candidates who have passed the class 12th board exam in 2021 or 2022 or have appeared in the class 12th board exam in 2023 are eligible to sit for the JEE 2023 Main examination. There is no age limit for the candidates. A candidate is given the opportunity to sit for the exam for three consecutive years.
