The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), formerly the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is a qualifying medical entrance exam for those aspiring students who desire to study undergraduate and postgraduate courses like MBBS, BDS, MD and MS. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts this exam, giving the opportunity to the medical students to get admission to India's top medical colleges.

The student who aspires to study medicine must have had Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology as mandatory subjects in Class 10th and 12th. English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, Odia, Tamil, and Urdu are the 13 languages in which the NTA conducts the NEET exam.   • There has been an increase of 20 minutes (180 minutes to 200 minutes) in the allotted time for the exam.
  • The new NEET exam pattern includes 200 multiple-choice objective-type questions from three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Each of the three subjects is divided into two sections, A & B of 35 and 15 questions, respectively. In Section B, candidates are required to attempt 10 of 15 questions.

According to the respective regulations, candidates are eligible to participate in NEET (UG):
  • As per nationality, candidates for the NEET-UG exam may be Indian, Persons of Indian Origin, Overseas Indian Citizens, Foreign Nationals, or Non-Resident Indians.
  • Candidates have to be 17 years old at the time of admission or on or before December 31st of the admission year of the first year of the undergraduate medical programme.
  • The upper age limit for the NEET has been dropped, and anybody can now apply for the medical admission test.
  • Candidates must have completed the 10+2 degree, or an equivalent, with core subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English, from an accredited Board/University.
  • Aspirants in Class 12th or equivalent (pursuing) are also eligible to apply for NEET 2022.
  • The percentage of class 12th required for the NEET exam is different for each category. NEET eligibility criteria in class 12 are minimum aggregate marks required in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) subjects. (UR - 50%,, OBC/SC/ST - 40%,, PWD - 45%)
  • There is no cap on the maximum NEET attempt limit.

For students taking the NEET 2022 exam, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has removed the maximum age limit. In 2017, the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) announced a maximum age limit of 25 years for unreserved (UR) applicants and 30 years for reserved candidates. The age criteria have frequently been challenged in the country's Supreme Court and high courts. With the age limit being removed, candidates can now take the medical entrance exam as many times as they like, even after enrolling in other courses.
