For now, let us look at the eligibility criteria.
There are certain key points that must be kept in mind regarding the JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria.
Candidates must pass the JEE Main exam to sit for the JEE Advanced exam. They are required to be in the top 2.5 lakhs of students scoring in the JEE (Main) 2022. The percentage breakup for various categories are listed below:
The candidates must be born on or after 1st October 1997. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get an age relaxation of five years in this, i.e., they must be born on or after 1st October 1992.
Candidates can give the examination no more than two consecutive times in two years. This means if a candidate has appeared in JEE 2020 and JEE 2021, then he/she is not eligible for the JEE 2022.
A candidate cannot be admitted to IITs who have cancelled their admission after joining. However, candidates who have been admitted for a preparatory course in any of the IITs can sit for the JEE (Advanced) 2022. Candidates who were allocated a seat but cancelled it without taking the admission due to any reason are also eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam 2022.
A candidate applying for the JEE Advanced exam must have appeared in the 12th standard in 2021 or 2022 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main subjects. If the results are declared in the academic year of 2019-20 on or after October 15th, then the candidates can appear for the exam. Similarly, if the result has been declared before 15th October in the academic year 2019-20, then the candidate is not eligible.
Relaxation in Eligibility Criteria as a Special Case: There are special cases in which relaxation is given to the candidates. Have a look at them!
Candidates who have given the 12th class examination in 2020 or 2021 and have registered for JEE Advanced 2021 but were absent in both the papers can appear for JEE Advanced 2022. They do not need to fulfil any criteria points mentioned above. But the candidates must register for JEE Advanced 2022 and pay the registration fee.
[It is important to note that this special case is not applicable to candidates who have appeared for the first time in 12th class examinations before 2020.]
Candidates must keep the eligibility criteria in check as any discrepancy in JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria can lead to disqualification.
The candidates who have qualified the JEE Advanced 2022 exam will have to register for the counselling and seat allotment conducted by JoSAA. The registration will be done via online mode.
Below are the steps for counselling and seat allotment.
The very first step that the candidates need to follow is completing registration. Candidates will be using the JEE (Main) roll number and JEE (Advanced) passcode as a credential to log in to their official website.
After you are done with the registration process, the candidates will select the college and courses of their choice from the available list. The candidates will be given the time of ten days to fill in the choices and confirm them.
The authorities will allot the seats to the candidates according to their merit, category, preferred choices, and seat availability. There will be a total of six rounds for allocation. A mock seat allocation will also be conducted to make the candidates aware of the probability of available seats. It will help the candidates in deciding what location and course they should opt for.
The authority will announce the seat allotment result on the official website. Seat allotment will be announced online. Students will have to log in using the application number and password. Students also have the choice of selecting the seats in early rounds and skipping the next rounds of counselling.
Students who will be allotted the seat must download and keep the allotment letter. After downloading the letter, the students have to pay a fee of Rs. 35,000/- as a seat acceptance fee. For the reserved category, the fee is Rs. 15,000/-. The fee can be paid via online mode or e-challan (offline).
After the payment of the acceptance fee as prescribed on the official site, candidates must carry their documents to the respective centres. The verification process will take place for the final allotment.
NOTE: Admission will get cancelled if the candidate fails to show up for document verification at allotted centres.
Let’s have a look at the essential documents required for Document Verification.
These documents have to be submitted to the reporting centre for verification:
