Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA)

Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) is a key internal assessment tool under the NIOS Open & Distance Learning (ODL) system, supporting learning and evaluation.

  • 1 TMA per subject
  • Mandatory for Stream-I learners
  • 20% of theory marks per subject
  • TMA questions available:
    • In booklet form
    • On NIOS official website

Submission Guidelines

  • Online submission only (Learner Dashboard)
  • Offline submission not allowed
  • Submit as per notified schedule
  • Holiday/weekend deadline → next working day
  • Incorrect TMA can be re-uploaded
  • Allowed within 7 days of original upload

Late Submission

  • Allowed with late fee per subject
  • Within 1 month of result declaration
  • Separate for April-May & Oct-Nov exams
  • Online payment & submission only

Note: TMA submission is mandatory. Non-submission or non-compliance may affect result declaration.

Evaluation Process

  • Evaluated by Subject Tutors at Study Centre (AI)
  • Marks uploaded on NIOS portal
  • No re-evaluation permitted

Personal Contact Programme (PCP)

NIOS provides Personal Contact Programmes (PCPs) offering academic guidance and practical support through face-to-face sessions at Study Centres (AIs).

PCP Structure (1st Year)

  • 1 Induction Session per subject
  • Up to 30 Theory PCP sessions 
  • 5 Practical PCP sessions (if applicable)
  • Conducted mainly on weekends & holidays

Purpose of PCP

  • Clarify difficult concepts
  • Resolve syllabus & exam doubts
  • Learn through interaction with teachers
  • Support Formative & Summative Assessment

Assessment (Practical)

  • 50% Formative (PCP sessions)
  • 50% Summative (final practical)

Schedule

  • Block-I: Theory - Nov | Practical - Feb
  • Block-II: Theory - May | Practical - Aug

Missed Practical PCP Sessions

  • Attendance of 5 practical sessions is mandatory
  • If missed:
    • Re-registration permitted
    • Pay Formative Assessment fee + subject exam fee
  • Allowed within valid admission period

Learners are advised to remain in regular contact with their Study Centre (AI) for the detailed PCP timetable.
