Selected Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) conducts the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) each year. It is in accordance with the guidelines given by the Joint Admission Board. It is important for students as it paves the way for the Bachelor’s, Integrated Master and Dual Degree Programs. The JEE Advanced 2024 is the second stage of the IIT JEE 2024. It is a national-level engineering entrance test for those who want to get admission to IITs. JEE Advanced is a computer-based exam and is generally conducted by one of the seven IITs, namely IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and IIT Guwahati. JEE (Advanced) consists of two papers, which are carried out in two shifts on the same day. The candidates need to appear in both of them to qualify on a merit basis.

JEE Advanced 2023—Paper Analysis

As per the feedback received by the students on the CSAT App specially designed by ALLEN Career Institute, the difficulty level of Paper 1 and Paper 2 was almost the same which means both the papers were difficult. However, some students found it more difficult to solve Paper 1.

  • There were four sections in each paper.

  • The weightage of Organic Chemistry was slightly higher.
  • Questions from Chemistry in Everyday Life were asked in Organic Chemistry which have been added to the syllabus of JEE Advanced this year.
  • In Inorganic Chemistry, questions were asked from almost all the main topics.
  • In physical chemistry, good questions were asked in numerical section.

Mathematics

  • Paper 1 of Mathematics was difficult and lengthy. While Paper 2 was of moderate level and lengthy.
  • In both the papers, questions were asked from Functions, Matrices, Permutation and Combination, Conic Section, Probability and Statics, Complex Numbers, Vector and 3-D Geometry. The number of questions from Calculus was less as compared to previous years.
  • Solution of triangle was removed from syllabus but still two questions were asked by making comprehension.

Here is the marking scheme

Paper-1

  • The total paper was of 180 marks. The total number of questions was 51. Means 17-17 questions were divided in all the three subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Paper 1 had four single correct questions. In which there was a provision of three marks for correct answer and minus one mark for wrong answer. There were three multiple correct questions. In which there was a provision of four marks for correct answer and minus two marks for wrong answer.
  • There were total six questions of numerical and integer type.
  • There will be four marks for correct answer while there was no negative marking for wrong answer. There were four questions from match the column. Which in a way is like single correct questions. In this, the student will get three marks for correct answer while there is a provision of minus one mark for wrong answer.

Paper-2

  • Paper 2 was also of total 180 marks and total 51 questions were asked. Which were divided into three subjects on the basis of 17-17 questions. There were four single correct questions in it.
  • There was a provision of three marks for the correct answer and minus one mark for the wrong one. Three multiple correct questions were asked. In which there was a provision of four marks for the correct answer and minus two marks for the wrong answer.
  • There were also two paragraphs and two questions were asked from each paragraph. There will be three marks for the correct answer while there was no provision of minus marking for the wrong answer. Similarly six non negative integer type questions were asked. In which four marks will be given on the correct answer, while there was no provision of minus marking on the wrong answer.

IIT Bombay was the conducting authority for the JEE Advanced 2022, which was held on 28th August 2022. The JEE Advanced in 2021 was conducted by IIT Kharagpur (as conducting authority). The examination was taken on 3rd October 2021.

Now let us analyze both the JEE Advanced exams for the years 2021 and 2022.

JEE Advanced 2022 Student Reactions for Paper 2

JEE Advanced Paper 2 was moderate to tough. Physics was divided between the syllabus of classes 11 and 12 with moderate and balanced questions. Chemistry was moderate and lengthy compared to paper 1 and it had more weightage on organic chemistry. Maths had moderate difficulty but it was lengthy.

The subject-wise analysis is given in the following paragraphs:

Physics: Physics was lengthy but had a moderate level of difficulty level. It covered all the chapters and asked concept-based questions. Questions were taken from current electricity, rotational motion, kinematics, work power and energy, thermodynamics and surface tension, electrostatics, magnetism, and current electricity. The questions with mixed concepts took more time for students and were lengthy for them.

Chemistry: Chemistry was easy to moderately tough. The questions were taken from mole Concept, electrochemistry, surface chemistry, thermodynamics & chemical kinetics in the Physical chemistry section whereas in Organic Chemistry it was a balanced combination of concept-based questions. Reaction-based questions were asked from inorganic chemistry.

Mathematics: This section too was moderate but lengthy. Coordinate geometry and calculus had more questions in the paper. Mixed concept questions were taken from Functions and Progressions, Application of Derivatives with a differential equation, Vectors and Matrices, Circle with trigonometry etc. Direct questions belonged to Ellipse, Hyperbola, Permutations & Combinations, Definite Integration with Inverse of Functions. All these questions had lengthy calculations. The paper was tough as compared to the previous year but all the chapters got equal weightage.
