NATIONAL STANDARD EXAMINATIONS (NSE) AND INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIADS

National Standard Examination (NSE) conducted by IAPT in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, and Junior Science is the first step for the worldwide International Olympiads.

All the further steps are conducted by Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai. After NSE examination, next step for the selected students is the Indian National Olympiad (INO) examination in the respective subjects.

The Olympiad program (for Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Astronomy/Junior Science) will follow the following 5 stages:

The number of questions, maximum marks and time allowed are as follows:

  1. Stage I: National Standard Examination in NSE-JS/P/C/B/A
  2. Stage II: Indian National-Olympiad IN-JS/Ph/Ch/B/A-O
  3. Stage III: Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC)
  4. Stage IV: Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT)
  5. Stage V: Participation in International JS/Ph/Ch/AA Olympiad (I-JS/Ph/Ch/B/AA-O)

Eligibility:

a) FOR JUNIOR SCIENCE
All Indian students who are born on or after January 1, 2000 and, in addition, are in Class X or lower as of November 30, 2014, are eligible to appear in NSEJS 2014 – 2015

b) FOR PHY/CHEM/BIO/ASTRO
All Indian students who are born on or after July 1, 1995 and, in addition, are in Class XII or lower as of November 30, 2014, are eligible to appear for NSE 2014 – 2015

REGIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD (RMO)

The RMO is a three-hour written test with six or seven problems. On the basis of the performance in RMO, a certain number of students from each region are selected for stage 2 (INMO). Some regions may hold a pre-RMO examination by way of which students will be selected to appear for RMO. All pre-RMOs will be conducted by the concerned regions. The format of the pre-RMO paper and the criteria for selecting students for RMO are at the sole discretion of the respective Regional Coordinators.

Australian National Chemistry Quiz

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHEMISTRY QUIZ (ANCQ)

The ANCQ is a unique chemical education activity. It provides a major focus for secondary school students on the relevance of chemistry in an exciting and stimulating way.

The Quiz is a truly international competition with papers translated into seven different languages. The Quiz is for the students throughout Australia and 17 neighboring countries. The Quiz is not a nationwide assessment of chemistry knowledge, but rather an opportunity to promote chemistry and to check the understanding students have for the subject.

International Earth Science Olympiad

INTERNATIONAL EARTH SCIENCE OLYMPIAD (IESO)

The International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) is one of the major activities of the International Geoscience Education Organization– IGEO.

The IESO is an annual competition for secondary school students. The students are tested with their skills in all major areas of Earth Sciences, including Geology, Geophysics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Terrestrial Astronomy and Environmental Sciences. The theoretical examination includes problems which are supposed to measure the participants’ knowledge and understanding of Earth Science areas. The practical examination consists of tasks which are designed to assess participants’ abilities to carry out scientific investigations in Earth Science inquiries.

OLYMPIADS BY SOF

SOF is an organization known for popularizing Computer, Science, Mathematics and English education among school children.

The National Science Olympiad has proved to be a highly motivating and rigorous aptitude testing platform with special and exclusive focus on Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mental Ability.

The National Cyber Olympiad focuses on logical reasoning, analytical skills and IT. The International Mathematics Olympiad is a mean to identify and encourage the Mathematical creativity of children through problem solving.

The IEO International English Olympiad is an international search for young linguistics, youngsters who have become maestros in English language.

OLYMPIADS BY UNIFIED COUNCIL

NSTSE is a diagnostic test which actually helps students to improve. Unlike regular tests which try only to find out how much a child knows (or has memorized), NSTSE measures how well a student has understood concepts and gives detailed feedback on the same, to help them for improvement.
