FAQ's

Ans. KVPY exam is conducted every year on the first Sunday of November. Ideally, a student should start preparing for KVPY exam right from April month. Even though starting the preparation from June will not be too late.

To begin with, we should take care of those topics which are given in the beginning of NCERT books for all the subjects, viz, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Since, the questions which have come in past year exam papers have not been too complex, most of the topics can be met by doing it from NCERT.

ALLEN has designed separate books keeping in mind the specific need of the exam. Staring from NCERT and gradually slipping towards ALLEN KVPY books would finally tread you to the right path.

Ans. "Well begun is half done" is quite known saying and this also applies to KVPY examination preparation too.

It is quite evident that KVPY syllabus has not been exactly defined by the conducting body, IISC, but the past year papers are the best guide. ALLEN has designed separate books for KVPY keeping in mind the specific need of the exam.

These books will not only help in identifying those topics which you should prepare, but it also guides us in the level of complexity of the topic we need to prepare. In my opinion ALLEN specially designed books for KVPY, its Mock Test Series supplemented with NCERT books on the same topic can help us in easy sail through the KVPY stage-I exam successfully.

Ans. The biggest challenge of KVPY exam be it SA stage-1 is that the conducting body, IISC, has not defined the syllabus of exam. The specially designed ALLEN books for KVPY exam can therefore be a good fall-back-on option. These books not only help as in identifying those topics which we need to prepare, but it also guide us in the level of complexity of the topic we need to cover. Along with this, NCERT books are also helpful.

In totality ALLEN books for KVPY and NCERT are more than sufficient. If you take KVPY mock test from ALLEN then it will be just like an icing on the cake.

Ans. We all know that KVPY exam conducting body, IISC, has not defined the syllabus of examination. We should, therefore, make a study of past year papers to get a proper idea. A good work has been done on this by many coaching institutes. ALLEN has specially designed KVPY books, which not only include the specific topics (given chapter wise) which need to be prepared but also tells about the complexity and depth of the topics. A student can, therefore, easily follow the entire preparation strategy given in ALLEN books.

Ans. A good revision strategy is always very crucial to crack a competitive examination. The same applies to KVPY exam. ALLEN organises KVPY workshop for its students and it carries out revision of all the KVPY topics. Taking KVPY mock tests from ALLEN can also be very helpful.

Finally, we should take care that all the concerned topics should be revised. To get a clear picture of all the topics to be revised we can consult ALLEN specially designed KVPY books and test papers.

Ans. For every competitive exam, it’s always good to take a test series, mock tests and consult previous year question papers. Since KVPY exam conducting body, IISC, has not defined its syllabus, previous year question papers are the best guide. Based on these previous year papers ALLEN has prepared separate books for KVPY exam which gives us the exact idea of the topics we should prepare and also the complexity level of these topics, we need to prepare.

Taking mock test series from ALLEN can be helpful to assess our preparation so that we can fine tune the same.

Ans. Negative marking scheme in an exam is the reality which each and every student has to live with while appearing in any competitive examination. The sooner we are accustomed to it, better is our performance.

All competitive exams now demands both speed and accuracy. To deal with both a comprehensive understanding of all the topics helps us in removing confusion and prevents us from wasting time in conceptual question which is highly undesirable. A student should also appear in mock tests and stick to time-bound studies which relieve a lot of extra pressure in final examination. This helps us in minimising silly mistakes. Joining mock test series of a coaching institute, say ALLEN, can be a good decision in this direction.

Ans. IISC, the conducting body of KVPY has not defined any syllabus for the exam. In order to do well in exam, one should refer notes of any good coaching institute. ALLEN specifically designed books for KVPY can solve the purpose. It not only guide us on the front of syllabus, as of which topics to be prepared but also tells us about the complexity of the topics to be prepared.

NCERT books always provide a good base for any competitive exam preparation including KVPY. Keeping the guidelines regarding the syllabus go through the same topics, from NCERT too.

Ans. There is no substitute to self-study be it any competitive examination. This rule applies to KVPY exam too. But if there is a possibility, then joining coaching at least a KVPY workshop has its own advantage. ALLEN books specially designed for KVPY guides not only in telling which topics need to be prepared but also up to what complexity level. Otherwise one has to analyse past year KVPY question papers since 2010. This should be supplemented by reading the same topics from NCERT. Joining a good coaching will provide a workshop to help revising the topics. Mock tests will also help in assessing our performance and fine tuning the same. A good domain of students appearing in these mock tests conducted by ALLEN will be the best option.

Ans. IISC, the conducting body of KVPY, has not defined its syllabus. So any good KVPY books specifically designed by any renowned coaching, like ALLEN, can be the best guide in terms of topics to be covered and also the complexity of those topics, to be dealt with. Keeping this in mind a student should consult NCERT books and their chapters accordingly. This is certainly going to provide a good base for the competitive examination preparation.

A right mix of good coaching notes (preferably ALLEN KVPY books) along with NCERT is more than sufficient.

Scores in regular tests, therefore, do not matter much. If possible join a workshop and mock test series of a good renowned coaching (preferably ALLEN as it has one of the best designed one for KVPY). This can be a master stroke in your KVPY exam drive.
