JEE Advanced 2024 Eligibility Criteria

There are certain key points that must be kept in mind regarding the JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria.

Criteria 1 – JEE Main 2024

Candidates must pass the JEE Main exam to sit for the JEE Advanced exam. They are required to be in the top 2.5 lakhs of students scoring in the JEE (Main) 2024. The percentage breakup for various categories is listed below:

  • Gen (EWS) – 10%
  • OBC – 27%
  • SC – 15%
  • ST – 7.5%
  • OPEN – 40.5%
  • PwD – 5%

Criteria 2 – Age Limit

The candidates must be born on or after 1st October 1999. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get an age relaxation of five years in this, i.e., they must be born on or after 1st October 1994..

Criteria 3 – Number of Attempts

Candidates can take the examination no more than two consecutive times in two years. This means if a candidate has appeared in JEE 2022 and JEE 2023, then he/she is not eligible for the JEE 2024.

Criteria 4 - Admission to Previous IITs

A candidate cannot be admitted to IITs who have cancelled their admission after joining. However, candidates who have been admitted for a preparatory course in any of the IITs can sit for the JEE (Advanced) 2024. Candidates who were allocated a seat but cancelled it without taking the admission due to any reason are also eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam 2024.

Criteria 5 – Appearance in Class 12th Examination

A candidate applying for the JEE Advanced exam must have appeared in the 12th standard in 2023 or 2024 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main subjects. If the results are declared in the academic year of 2021-22 on or after September 21, 2022 then the candidates can appear for the exam. Similarly, if the result has been declared before September 21, 2022 in the academic year 2021-22, then the candidate is not eligible.

Relaxation in Eligibility Criteria as a Special Case: There are special cases in which relaxation is given to the candidates. Have a look at them!

Candidates who have given the 12th class examination in 2021 or 2022 and have registered for JEE Advanced 2023 but were absent in both papers can appear for JEE Advanced 2024. They do not need to fulfill any criteria points mentioned above. However, the candidates must register for JEE Advanced 2024 and pay the registration fee.

[It is important to note that this special case is not applicable to candidates who have appeared for the first time in 12th class examinations before 2021.]

Candidates must keep the eligibility criteria in check as any discrepancy in JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria can lead to disqualification.
